CF´s research has been mainly focused in studying cell physiology of the cerebral blood vessels and with a special emphasis on its permeability regulation at the level of transport processes and cellular adhesion molecules in physiology and disorders like Neuroinflammation, Ischemic brain injury, brain cancer, comorbidities of heart failure. CF is moreover devoted to characterization of the related neurovascular barriers in the eye and inner ear.

Michiaki Nagai has completed his graduation from the Jichi Medical University School of Medicine and has been engaged in the Cardiovascular Medicine. Using volumetric analysis in MR SPGR imaging, he has been investigating the fields for target hypertensive organ damages including the relationships among hypertension, blood pressure variability, brain atrophy, cognitive impairment and central autonomic nervous system including the insular cortex. He was engaged in the Interventional Cardiology at Hiroshima City Asa Hospital as the Vice Director. He won the Japanese Society of Hypertension Award in the International Society of Hypertension 2006, the Young Investigator’s Award in the 8th Japanese Neurocardiology Workshop 2007 and Young Scientist Award in the second annual scientific forum of clinical hypertension of the Japanese Society of Hypertension 2013.

Aris Lacis, cardiac surgeon, professor, MD, Ph.D. graduated from Riga Medical Institute in 1961. General and thoracic surgeon in P. Stradina University Hospital in Riga (1964–1969). Thoracic and cardiac surgeon in the Latvian Centre for Cardiovascular Surgery (1969–1994). From 1994 until 2012 – the head of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Clinic in University Children’s Hospital, Riga; since 2012 – a consulting professor of this Clinic. Vicepresident of Latvian Society for Cardiovascular Surgery. President of Latvian Association for Pediatric Cardiologists. Author of 395 scientific publications, 3 monographs, and 13 patents. Investigator in more than 10 clinical trials including cardiosurgical procedures performed under deep hypothermia, hybrid procedures, etc. In May 2009 have been used transhuman intramyocardial delivery techniques for treatment (idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy) for the first 3 months of aged patients in the world with autologous bone marrow-derived progenitor cells. In November 2010 the first patient with end-stage pulmonary hypertension received intrapulmonary implantation autologous stem cells.

Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery

She was born in Zagreb. In 1972, she graduated from the School of Medicine in Zagreb. In 1980 she completed her specialization in internal medicine at the Department for Heart and Blood Vessel Diseases, Zagreb University Hospital Centre. She continued cardiology training in Stockholm, Uppsala and Pisa. She was the first person in Croatia to introduce and conduct the stress echocardiography method (1992) and has published 56 scientific and academic papers, primarily in the field of cardiology. By 2001, she had been working as an internist cardiologist specialist and chief of the Polyclinic Section at the Department for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases and Rehabilitation in Zagreb. In 2002, she founded the Saint Nicholas Polyclinic for Cardiovascular Diseases and Prevention on Korčula. She is a member of the Croatian Association of Physicians, the Croatian Cardiologic Association, European Cardiologic Association, European Association of Cardiac Decompensation (HFA), European Association for Echocardiography (EAE), and the New York Academy of Sciences. The lines of research on which he worked at the University of Catania, Department of Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences, section of applied physiology and kinesiology and motion control, have been in the field of neuroscience, in particular in the role of beta-amyloid and glycoprotein F3 in the synaptic plasticity of hippocampal memory of mice and then in Alzheimer's disease; he dealt with behavior and various behavioral tests in mice; of electrophysiology of in vitro slices of hippocampus, stereotaxy and cannulation implantation, administration of drugs and animal welfare.

Dr. Ulviye Gunay has completed her Ph.D. at the Erciyes University Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Pediatric Nursing in Turkey in 2014. She conducted various studies in the field of pediatric oncology, social pediatrics and nursing education. Conducts studies on art practices for children with cancer and children with psychological problems. As a recent study, her article, titled "The transfer of theoretical knowledge to clinical practice by nursing students and the difficulties they experience: A qualitative study", has been published in the Journal of Nurse Education Today in March 2018. She is a member of the Turkish Nurses Association. Currently, she serves as the Chairman of the Department at the Inonu University Department of Pediatric Nursing.

Claude Billeaud received his MD degree from the Medical University of Bordeaux ( France) in 1979 after a graduation in human cytogenetics (1976). He then studied pediatrics and has been the Clinical Assistant Director of Bordeaux University in the departments of Pediatrics, Neonatology and Intensive Care since 1983. He currently serves as a pediatrician in the neonatal unit at the Children’s Hospital of Bordeaux, as a scientific manager of Bordeaux-Marmande human milk bank, as a lecturer and head of research (HDR : Habilitation to direct research) in neonatal nutrition at the Medical University of Bordeaux. His particular interest in research led him to graduate in Biology and Health (1988, Bordeaux), be awarded a master in statistics applied to clinical research ( 1991, Montreal) and complete a PhD in nutrition and food science (2000, Bordeaux). Along his career he has often been invited as a guest professor specialised in nutrition and neonatology in various universities abroad ( Montreal, Corrientes in Argentina). Over the last 35 years, he has been an active member of different scientific organisations, either French, European or American, specialised in perinatal medicine (neonatology, pediatrics and nutrition). In this instance, he has served as the President of the Association for Pediatric Education in Europe (A.P.E.E) since 2008 and behalf APEE he is Member of European Academy of Paediatrics (EAP). He has also been very involved in the French human milk banking association (ADLF) for more than 10 years, sharing his academic knowledge focused in nutrition and his long clinical experience in neonatology. He is currently carrying out several researches on the composition of human milk. As an expert in nutrition and perinatal medicine, he is also the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications.

He is the Director of Nursing for Education and Practice Development at HMGH and is a Member of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Qatar. He is also the Senior Adjunct Instructor, Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ). His current research interests include research utilization, evidenced-based practice, hematology/oncology, nursing informatics and cancer immunotherapy.

He has published more than 50 research articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals. In November 2015, he has received Award of Merit for Placing HMC at the Cutting Edge of Cancer Research as a part of Stars of Excellence Program introduced by HMC. In October 2016, he has completed a Cancer Biology and Therapeutics (CBT) Program, provided by Harvard Medical School.
